The founder behind
Usizo Wildlife Rescue.
Usizo Wildlife Rescue is a nonprofit organization operating a transparent, well-managed rehabilitation centre and sanctuary in Africa for elephants, rhinos, and hippos on land it owns and additional land it leases. The page below introduces the founder, the values behind the work, and what donors and grant reviewers should expect from every dollar given.

Pieter Joubert.
I'm Pieter Joubert, founder and executive director of Usizo Wildlife Rescue. My path to this work grew out of years of board service — including with Proud Animal Rescue in South Carolina and the South African Chamber of Commerce in the USA — where I learned how small, well-governed organisations are built and held to account. That governance record is the standard I carry into every decision at Usizo Wildlife Rescue.
I founded Usizo Wildlife Rescue because I believe the animals most often left behind — elephants, rhinos, and hippos displaced or orphaned by crisis — deserve a sanctuary designed to last. I've committed substantial personal time, resources, and financial assets to making this a responsible, transparent, well-managed rehabilitation centre in Africa — one any donor can verify and any animal can rely on for life.
The rescue mission is simple: give these animals a safe place when they have nowhere else to go, and operate with the transparency that funders and accountability-conscious partners depend on. Everything we do — every intake decision, every dollar — is built around that commitment.
Three takeaways from the founder's record.
Usizo Wildlife Rescue publishes its allocation model, its per-intake ledger, and its annual 990 so funders can verify every claim below. The three beats below are the donor-grade read of what Pieter's background commits to.
Usizo Wildlife Rescue has received 501(c)(3) approval.
Pieter's board work with Proud Animal Rescue in South Carolina and the South African Chamber of Commerce in the USA reflects a long, hands-on record of governance — not a single-cause background.
From people to wildlife, the work that shaped Usizo Wildlife Rescue has always centred those most often left behind — a frame that drives every intake decision and every donor dollar.
Substantial time, resources, and personal financial assets were committed to make Usizo Wildlife Rescue a responsible, transparent, well-managed rehabilitation centre and sanctuary in Africa for elephants, rhinos, and hippos.
If the founder's record reads honestly, here is where it lands.
Usizo Wildlife Rescue publishes its allocation model, its per-animal ledger, and the annual 990 so donors and grant reviewers can audit every dollar. The breakdown on the transparency page is the same model reconciled against every intake — and the same number any funder can verify on Form 990.
