Hippo

Themba

Intake candidate

A podless juvenile whose dam was lost to a snare line. Hippo calves cannot survive without a pod, so Themba moves directly into the sanctuary's quarantine dam with rotating keepers for hand-rearing. Lifelong residency once weaning proves permanent.

The single best way to support Themba directly is to support the sanctuary care pathway as needs change. Every contribution supports the sanctuary’s published care model, and major donors may receive supported-work briefings subject to privacy and animal-welfare considerations.
