Rhino rescue · nonprofit organization

A rhino rescue nonprofit— operating for the survivors who can’t go back to the wild.

Snare and dehorning survivors, calves whose herds fractured under loss. We triage, we cover the orthopaedic bill, and when release is off the table we hold them for life — on sanctuary land we own and additional land we lease, with annual public reporting.

Why triage, why sanctuary

Snare and dehorning survivors, plus calves rejected by herds fractured by loss. Triage, then lifelong residency.

A rhino that’s survived a dehorning event carries long-term orthopaedic and nasal damage that no wild release program can solve. We draw the line at the vet report: when the animal can’t go home, the sanctuary is the next step. Snare survivors tell the same story a different way — chronic soft-tissue damage, herd fragmentation, calves that can’t bond with a new matriarch on the timeline their species needs.

“Rescue” here means a holding paddock near the wildlife-manager station, an attending vet on retainer, and a clean end-of-life path when the injuries progress. 87¢ of every dollar at Usizo Wildlife Rescuelands on animals; the remaining 13¢ covers the audited operating reserve, the CPA filings, and the cost of donors hearing from us once a year instead of every month.

The $4M, 24-month care-and-infrastructure campaign supports the ongoing operation and maintenance of the rhino triage paddock and orthopaedic surgery suite, plus staged perimeter-fencing and biosecurity improvements across the primary sanctuary land we own and additional land we lease. We publish the per-intake ledger alongside the annual financial report so funders can trace allocations to supported work and, after an intake where appropriate, the relevant animal record. Updates follow privacy and animal-welfare considerations; no particular animal is promised in advance.

One triage, on the public ledger

The animal on this page arrived because a donor closed the intake.

A single contribution moves the sanctuary forward at the same proportional split across the five allocation lines. Stripe issues your contribution receipt the moment checkout confirms.

Rhino residents in care

Meet the residents in triage.

Each card is a real animal with a public profile — intake story, monthly cost of care, and the veterinary status we publish on the per-animal ledger.
